The focus of American Kickboxing is to be as efficient as possible with accurate and controlled kicks and punches to specific areas.
Each class is 1 hour long beginning with a warm up which can incorporate a circuit, stretching, kicking, and punching which you work to your own ability.
The remaining 40 to 45 minutes you will use focus pads, kickshields, punchbags and semi-contact sparring for the more experienced students. Basic air kicking and punching (drill work) also takes place throughout the class well as partner work. There are gradings available if you want to progress further.
These ladies only classes are designed for upper body workout using weights, focus pads, medicine balls,
punch bags and skipping ropes - all the usual boxing fitness drills.
Classes are non-contact and perfect to tone up and improve fitness levels.
This karate class is aimed at children between the ages of 5 to 9 years.
It teaches them the basics of Karate through structure learning and play.
The children will become fitter, more confident and respectful of their peers, whilst having fun.
The children can grade to three intermediate levels leading to traditional Karate belt syllabus.
This helps the child to progress at their level of ability through encouragement, praise and reward.
Karate do goshin jitsu/personal training karate
Modern karate is the outcome of centuries of interchange between China, the Ryukyu islands and Japan.
It only recently came to be openly taught to the puplic, first in Okinawa and later in Japan.
During 1917 and 1922 the late Gichin Funakoshi, who was then a Professor at the Okinawa Teachers
College, was invited to lecture at an exhibition of traditional martial arts sponsored by the
Ministry of Education. The demonstration was so successful that he stayed on in Tokyo to teach
Karate at various universities and Kodokan, the home of Judo, until he was able to establish
the Shotokan Dojo in 1936 from which the name of the style originated. The name "Shotokan" is
derived from Master Funakoshi's nickname or pen name, 'Shoto' combined with "kan", which is
the Japanese word for school. Today the name "Shotokan" applies to the type of Karate as
taught originally by Master Funakoshi.
The style of karate taught at Martial Arts Leisure is Shotokan Karate Goshin Jitsu
(The Art of Self-defence)
Choi Hwarang Do
Choi Hwarang-Do is based on traditional martial arts philosophy which emphasises the ideal of
personal and social development, rather than sports competition. Choi Hwarang-Do classes provide
a safe and non-competitive environment in which students can grow mentally as well as physically.
As well as its focus on practical self-defence skills, this art aims to help the student cultivate good
manners, courtesy, self-discipline, self-confidence and good social adjustment.
Choi Hwarang-Do is not designed or optimised for athletic competition; instead, it is designed as
a devastatingly effective self-defence system which can be used in 'real street situations'.
It has also been designed to enhance the student's over-all health, fitness and well-being,
rather than cause the injuries and damage so often associated with competitive activities.
Choi Hwarang-Do is an evolving system which is updated as new information about
health, fitness and training methods emerges.
